There are many things to consider when it comes to hiring an Estate Sales company.  We as consumers are inundated with so much marketing and spam that it could begin to cast doubt on your decisions and whether or not they were the correct ones.  At Lott’s Treasures, we are a small proud group of people who bleed passion for the entire Estate Sales process. From the interaction with buyers to the top notch customer service we provide to our clients.  Over the years, we have learned what people are really asking when it comes to hiring an estate sales company.

  • Do your homework

Learn more about what all is involved when it comes to working with an Estate Sales company.  To learn more on how Lott’s Treasures handles things, read our Estate Sales Process section.  EstateSales.net also has a helpful section which you can read here.

  • Ask lots of questions

There are so many things to take in when considering an estates sale.  It can become a bit overwhelming if you don’t have a plan. Part of that plan should include asking the right questions to your Estate Sales company.  Below are some questions to consider:

  1. What’s your commission?
  2. How long after the sale will I be compensated?
  3. How will my home look “after” the sale? (condition)
  4. Are there any additional fees I should know about?
  5. How many days do you need to set up?
  6. Do you have any upcoming estate sales that I could stop by and check out?
  7. How many days would it take to sell everything?
  • Prices aren’t everything

It is a natural reaction to judge companies by their percentage charges.  Your natural instinct might be to go for the lowest percentage.  That could hurt you however.  A lot of Estate Sales companies come and go.  In an effort to get their foot in the door, these companies can charge a very low percentage rate.  You want an Estate Sale company with experience to make sure you get the most value for your items, even if they’re not the cheapest.  It’s sort of like hiring a cpa to do your taxes.  Some may charge more money, but perhaps they can get you more money as well.

  • Don’t get rid of ANYTHING just yet

What may be trash to you may not be the case to someone else.  Atlanta is filled with collectors who are in search of the perfect item to complete their collection, no matter how minor it may seem.  Have an expert come over and look at it before making that decision.  At Lott’s Treasures, we are happy to offer you a free consultation.

  • Visit an Estate Sale in Person

Visit an Atlanta Estate Sale to see how it all works.  This is probably the best advice that could be given because it will expose you to scenarios you might not have considered.  Buy something, interact with the staff during checkout, ask questions.  Get a feel for the whole process.  To find an estate sale in your area, sign up to our email list today.

  • Ask for some References

Make sure to ask any estate company you’re considering to hire to give you a short list of references.  References in this case are people who have hired the estate sale company to sell off their items.  Give these references a call.  Ask them lots of questions.  Were they happy?  Were they so-so? What did they do well and what could have been done better?  At Lott’s Treasures, we are happy to provide our clients with references upon their request. Read some of our Atlanta estate sale reviews!
